Minetto
fire hydrants
People don’t often think of fire hydrants until they have a structure fire and the fire department needs one. Fire hydrants provide the water which is essential to extinguish a fire. There are hundreds of fire hydrants throughout the town-wide water district. As one might gather, removing the snow from around all of these hydrants is a time-consuming, laborious task. The Highway Department is responsible for performing this function. All residents who have a fire hydrant on their property, or near their residence, are strongly encouraged to keep the area clear of snow around their local fire hydrant. A circular radius of approximately 3 feet around the hydrant in all directions allows the Minetto Volunteer Fire Department sufficient area to connect their hoses and to turn the valve on top of the hydrant.
